Concerning the Transfer of Certain Pet Animals in Colorado
By: House Majority Leader Duran, Representative McCormick, and Senators Rodriguez and Roberts.
This bill had a hearing scheduled for March 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Old Supreme Court Chambers. The AKC and CFDCO strongly OPPOSED this bill.
Original Concerns Outlined:
- Pet Store Ban: Prohibited licensed, inspected pet stores from selling dogs and cats.
- Broad Definition of a Broker: Banned brokers from operating in CO entirely and conflicted with USDA definitions.
- Three-Dog Sale Limit: Imposed an unenforceable limit restricting individuals to transferring no more than 3 dogs per calendar year.
